The Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation, Inc. wishes to express a sincere thank you the following jury members for sharing their time, experience and expertise with us to select the finalists and recipients for the Foundation’s annual visual arts awards:

For the 2008 Strathbutler Award:

Francine Degenais
Artist, lecturer, and writer. Francine is a professor at the Department of Visual Arts at the University of Ottawa Faculty of Arts.

Linden Frederick
Realist painter currently residing in Maine. Linden studied at Ontario College of Art, Toronto, and the Academia de Belle Arte, Florence, Italy. He is represented by the Forum Gallery, New York, Los Angeles.

Tom Lovett
Freelance curator, artist, and art reviewer from Manitoba. Tom recently curated the Marion McCain Atlantic Art Exhibition 2007 at the Beaverbrook Art Gallery.

For the Fred Ross, Nel Oudemans, and 2008 MFA Scholarships Awards:

Allan Crimmins
Founded Crimmins Pottery in 1970. Allan and his family produce functional stoneware pottery, as well as one-of-a-kind works.

Jennifer Pazienza
Art educator, writer, lecturer and painter. Jennifer currently teaches art education in the Faculty of Education for UNB.

Peter Salmon
Artist and former university and high school art educator. Now retired from teaching, Peter focuses his energies on his painting and exhibiting.

The 2008 Awards

1) The $15,000 Strathbutler Award recognizes craftspeople and artists who have achieved excellence in their field while having made a substantial contribution over a significant period of time in the province of New Brunswick.

2) The $2,000 Nel Oudemans Award is for a recent graduate of the New Brunswick College of Craft and Design.

3) The $4,000 Fred Ross Award is for a student graduating from secondary school in New Brunswick who intends to pursue post-secondary studies in visual art or craft.

4) The Sheila Hugh Mackay Foundation Scholarship, in the amount of 5,000, is awarded annually to a student entering a graduate program in the visual arts. The student must be a New Brunswick resident, but may study at any recognized fine arts program at any location.
